Vance has lost his eye sight in both eyes. Each with a different condition.
His E-mail ( excerpt below) explains the conditions further:
"I have been having trouble with both of my eyes after cataract surgery this past year.
My left eye is a long way from 20/20 and now my right eye has developed a hole in my macula that has to be repaired as soon as possible by Dr. Fly who is a retina specialist in Jackson, Ms.
I went today to him and he has me scheduled for surgery in the eye that has the hole.
Until the surgery, I am almost blind in the right eye but I can some periferal vision.
The left eye has to have three shots in it spaced 5 weeks apart...
So, this means I have to amost give up this computer, driving, reading paper, etc. that are all related to my particular problems until the eyes are corrected..…"
"Just say a few prayers for me from time to time until after the surgery...
